CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – With the presidential election only months away, preparations are underway to ensure the voting process goes smoothly for everybody.
That’s why Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was at the Chatham County Board of Elections office Monday overseeing the “health check” of the county’s election system.
These health checks happen at all of Georgia’s 159 counties, the Secretary of State’s office looks to ensure the security of the building itself and its internet connection are secure as well as the effectiveness of the voting equipment there.
“So, we can verify that the machines have not been tampered with to give everyone that comfortable feeling coming into the election of November. We understand that this is going to be a large, pivotal election. It seems like we have those every two or four years here in Georgia now. So, we want to make sure that voters are confident in the results,” said Raffensperger.
Raffensperger says in the 2022 election, it seemed as though voters returned to their regular preference of voting—either early in-person, absentee, or on Election Day after the 2020 election.
“It’s not that I’m standing up to any one person… what I’m standing up for is the elections of Georgia. I’m standing for the law, I’m standing for our Constitution, I’m standing with the facts,” said Raffensperger.
More than half of voters choose to vote early. He expects that trend to continue this November.
